I offer developmental editing, with my specialty being in the realm of history and memoir; however, I also offer editing services for all types of nonfiction, including self-help, personal development, and manuscripts geared toward both a general and academic audience.
For these edits, I will provide a thorough examination and critique of your manuscript in which I will pose questions, document reactions, and make suggestions for ways in which your project could be improved. I will give feedback on elements such as pacing, content strength, and tone; I will also discuss your particular goals for the edit, and place additional emphasis on areas in which you are less confident, or in which you feel your piece needs extra attention.
After reading the manuscript a minimum of two times, I’ll take time to develop my thoughts on the piece as a whole in an editorial letter that you will receive in an email.
If you have any questions about my edits, this service also includes one round of follow-up questions via email, where you can tell me anything and everything that comes to mind, and ask for some additional advice.
I also offer video calls for those who would prefer to receive feedback in that manner; you may schedule a video call here.
Things to Note
- I am comfortable reading content of all levels of maturity; graphic scenes and language of any nature is acceptable, though I may comment on them if they do not fit the intended audience.
- I try to appreciate the fact that every author has their own unique manner and style of writing; thus, comments on style will only be made from my impression of the writing as a whole, and will purely be suggestions.
- While I will make comments on your manuscript, I will not re-write any sections, or address issues with grammar, spelling, and punctuation (unless they are glaring and consistent throughout). I will simply make suggestions; it will be up to you as the author to make the changes that you feel are valid and necessary to elevate your work.
Some Disclaimers
I reserve the right to refuse any manuscript for any reason; if I feel like we would not be a good fit, I do not need to specify the exact reasoning behind this decision. Conversely, you have the right to work with any editor that you choose; requesting information, or even a quote, for your manuscript does not obligate you to work with me if you don’t feel like we would be a good fit.
All requests are subject to my personal availability, and will be scheduled as soon as my calendar allows.
Thank you for reading, and I look forward to working with you!
